United States Lighthouse Establishment or Service.
USLH round brass box or can with hinged lid. Lamp Shop stamp.  Keeper's container measures 3 and 1/8 inches in diameter and 1 inch high.   Probably kept in his light house service basket.  Lid moves freely and gently snaps shut.  Small dings. 
Tarnished.  As found condition.  Circa 1900.  Ultra rare.

Stamped on the bottom: U.S.L.H. Depot 3. Dist Staten Island, NY Lamp Shop.

United States Lighthouse Establishment / Service
The United States Lighthouse Establishment was created and operated under the Department of the Treasury in 1789.

In 1910 the name was changed to the the United States Lighthouse Service.

The United States Lighthouse Service was abolished and merged into the United States Coast Guard in 1939.
