Original Civil War Palmer Bolt Action Carbine

50 caliber rimfire single shot.  Overall condition is excellent.  This Palmer does not appear to have ever been refinished.  It is untouched and has probably never been fired.

The barrel is brown with salt and pepper on upper barrel.  Removable dry grease exists on some parts.  All metal parts are marked with a P.  Screw heads are not damaged.

Inspector's mark on the stock is vague but appears to be R.T.S. There is a small chip of wood at the sling swivel.  Wood edges are sharp.   Stock has some minor dings but no wood loss or sanding.

$2,500.00

The Palmer Carbine was made in Windsor, Vermont in 1865 by  E.G. Lamson & Co.   This gun was designed by William Palmer, brother of Courtland Palmer who owned the patent rights to the Jennings rifle.   He patented the design in December of 1863, and was brought to Windsor by Lamson.  This is the first metallic cartridge bolt action rifle adopted by the U.S. Government.  Approximately 1000 were manufactured.
