Original Model 1842 172,000 of the Model 1842 were made at the Springfield
Armory. All wood is in excellent condition. There is a very small chip at the tang. Inspectors mark is too vague to identify. All metal is brown with no pitting or rust except
around the nipple area and the nipple appears to be a replacement. The breech plug is dated 1847 and has been removed at
some point. Breech end of the barrel has a
nick where it was held in vice to remove the plug but it can easily be repaired. The upper band spring tip is missing but easily replaced. The ramrod is original with original threads. The lock is in excellent mechanical condition. Initials AP are inscribed on the butt plate. |
