Original Civil War Sharps Carbine New Model 1863 Conversion 50/70. Serial number
31799. 50 caliber straight breech. New model 1859/63/65. Originally
percussion - arsenal converted to .50/70 centerfire cartridge. Approximately 27,000
so made. Tape primer is complete and intact. Most of the original finish is
there. Bluing on the barrel has turned a blue-brown. Wood is in very good
condition with few minor dents. All wood edges are sharp. Wood does not appear
to have ever been touched. Walnut stock has inspector's marks - DFC (David F.
Clark). Bore has few rust spots toward the breech end. Otherwise the barrel is
bright with strong rifling. There are a couple of rust spots on the outside of the
barrel. This carbine saw very little use if any, and is in overall excellent
