Original Civil War Sharps Carbine New Model 1863 Conversion 50/70.

Serial number 31799.  50 caliber straight breech.  New model 1859/63/65.  Originally percussion - arsenal converted to .50/70 centerfire cartridge.  Approximately 27,000 so made.  Tape primer is complete and intact.  Most of the original finish is there.  Bluing on the barrel has turned a blue-brown.  Wood is in very good condition with few minor dents.  All wood edges are sharp.  Wood does not appear to have ever been touched.  Walnut stock has inspector's marks - DFC (David F. Clark).  Bore has few rust spots toward the breech end.  Otherwise the barrel is bright with strong rifling.  There are a couple of rust spots on the outside of the barrel.  This carbine saw very little use if any, and is in overall excellent condition.

$3,000
